The following article explains how to set up Visual Voicemail on your iPhone. Visual Voicemail is how your iPhone displays and manages voicemail messages–pretty much like an email inbox. Currently, nearly all mobile providers in Europe and North America offer Visual Voicemail, and there are more providers in other countries as well. If you don’t have access to Visual Voicemail on your iPhone, you could check with your carrier to see if they offer their own voicemail app. You can still access and manage your messages using your iPhone’s voicemail features if they don’t.
Introduction of Voicemail
Voicemail was invented as a result of a simple frustration. A man named Gordon Matthews was on a business trip and he was playing telephone tag while trying to contact the office. After the incident, he mentioned to his wife that he needed to invent a telephony system where people can send each other recorded messages. Matthews formed a company called VMX (Voice Message Express) and began to conduct research. In 1983, Matthews invented a voicemail service and applied for a patent. He was very small, only having six people.
Although his invention of Voicemail helped 3M make a great deal of money, the product was too expensive for the general public, and only a few Fortune 500 companies were able to utilize it. However, a company named Dialogic Communications soon helped to solve that problem when it announced its invention of PC-based voice processing equipment. As the two inventions worked side by side, Voicemail started becoming more common. Soon, the public realized the convenience of the product and that it was a necessity for commercial and personal communication. Most cell phones have voicemail capability.

The Phone App Allows You to Setup Voicemail
If you want to set up Voicemail, select ‘Voicemail’ in the bottom right corner of the screen. If selecting this option initiates a call, you’ll need to follow the prompts to continue setting up your Voicemail. If tapping ‘Voicemail’ doesn’t initiate a call, the option to ‘Set Up Now’ should appear. This option should be visible in the middle of the page. From there you need to type in a password. This needs to be four to six digits long. You can record a greeting by selecting the ‘Greeting’ tab in the top left corner. This usually occurs when you transfer data from an old phone to a new one.
To set up your voicemail password, you will need to have your voicemail service provider’s password. Once you have set up your voicemail password, you will be taken to the voicemail greetings page. Here you can customize your voicemail greetings. Inside the greetings page, tap ‘Default’ if you want to use your service provider’s default voicemail greeting. Otherwise, if you want to record a custom greeting select ‘Custom’. Both options are found near the top of the page. If you have selected ‘Custom’, you will see the option to record your voicemail message.
If you are using a free Amazon app, you can tap ‘Record’ in the bottom right corner of the app, followed by ‘Save’.
